UAE Backs Sam Altman Idea to Turn Itself into AI Testing Ground
OpenAI CEO Supports Efforts: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to become a global leader in testing and regulating artificial intelligence (AI) technology, according to UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Omar Al Olama.
This aligns with the views of OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, who believes the UAE can be a “hub for pragmatic regulation” in AI. Altman sees the UAE as a serious player in AI and supports the country's efforts to spearhead global AI rules. The UAE aims to create a regulatory sandbox for AI experimentation.
OpenAI Disrupts State-Affiliated Threat Actors Using AI Services for Cyber Attacks
OpenAI has partnered with Microsoft Threat Intelligence to disrupt five state-affiliated threat actors that were seeking to use AI services for malicious cyber activities. The identified OpenAI accounts associated with these actors have been terminated.
OpenAI is taking a multi-pronged approach to combatting such actors, including monitoring and disrupting their activities, collaborating with the AI ecosystem, iterating on safety mitigations, and promoting public transparency. The aim is to protect the digital ecosystem and improve the experience for all users.
Microsoft and OpenAI say hackers are using ChatGPT to improve cyberattacks
Microsoft and OpenAI have detected Russian, North Korean, Iranian, and Chinese-backed groups using large language models like ChatGPT to improve their cyberattacks. The Russian group Strontium, also known as APT28 or Fancy Bear, is using LLMs to understand satellite communication protocols and automate technical operations.
North Korean hackers are using LLMs to research vulnerabilities and draft content for phishing campaigns, while the Iranian group Curium is generating phishing emails and code to evade detection. Chinese state-affiliated hackers are using LLMs for research, scripting, translations, and refining tools. Microsoft is developing an AI assistant for cybersecurity professionals to identify breaches and enhance security measures.
Nvidia is now worth more than Amazon and Alphabet
Nvidia has overtaken Alphabet and Amazon in market capitalization, making it the world's fourth most valuable company. The chip maker's stock is now worth $1.83 trillion, slightly higher than Alphabet's $1.82 trillion.
Nvidia's dominance in the AI chip market is driving its success, with its H100 chip powering major AI projects. Despite competition from tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon, Nvidia is set to release the superior H200 chip, while also investing in helping other companies create custom AI chips.
Rasa lands $30M to supercharge customer service with generative AI assistants
Rasa, a San Francisco-based startup, has secured $30 million in series C funding to enhance its product and expand its market share in the field of generative AI for customer service.
Rasa has already attracted major enterprises such as Adobe, Orange, Dell, and American Express as customers. The company's open-source framework for building chat and voice assistants has evolved into a full enterprise-grade platform for generative conversational AI.

Gemini Advanced is most impressive when it’s working with Google
Google's Gemini Advanced, a chatbot powered by AI, competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus in terms of functionality and performance. Gemini Advanced, running on the more powerful AI model Gemini Ultra, excels in providing information about current events and businesses, thanks to its integration with Google Maps.
However, it falls short when it comes to generating accurate and visually appealing images compared to ChatGPT Plus with its DALL-E 3 integration. Gemini Advanced also struggles with highly complex tasks such as translation, as it lacks support for certain languages. While Gemini Advanced shows promise, it still requires further improvements to deliver consistent and satisfactory results.
Rumor: iPhone 16 to offer ultra-fast AI performance thanks to new Neural Engine
A new report suggests that Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 will come with advanced AI features and an improved Neural Engine. The M4 and A18 processors in the iPhone 16 will have a higher number of AI computing cores, resulting in increased performance and improved AI application capabilities.
While the rumors should be taken with skepticism, it is likely that iOS 18 will incorporate AI features that can be used on previous iPhone generations. Additionally, it is unclear if the more powerful Neural Engine will be exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro model.
TSMC's shares reached an all-time high after Morgan Stanley increased the price target on chip designer Nvidia due to high demand for AI technology. TSMC, the leading producer of advanced processors, manufactures chips for companies like Nvidia and Apple.
Nvidia is benefiting from the AI boom and its powerful chips are used in large language models like OpenAI's ChatGPT. TSMC is currently manufacturing 3-nanometer chips and plans to start mass production of 2-nanometer chips in 2025.
Duet AI side panel appearing in Gmail, Google Drive, and Docs for more testers
Google's Duet AI, now called Gemini, is being tested through the Workspace Labs program for free accounts. It appears as a side panel next to your profile image and allows you to chat with the AI in real-time.
Users can use it to summarize email threads, suggest reply options, find information from previous emails and Google Drive files, and perform various tasks in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The side panel can be expanded to take up half the screen in all apps except Gmail.
